Take a break from your hectic holiday schedule! Relax for three hours at the Fox Theatre in historic downtown Centralia. At “The 1956 Movie Show,” you’ll take a trip back to the less hurried time of the 1950′s.

The program includes previews of coming attractions, a cartoon, a special short subject (more later), the latest chapter of an action serial, and our full-length 1956 feature “Patterns,” starring Van Heflin, Everett Sloane and Ed Begley.

“Patterns” is the Hollywood big-screen version of a successful teleplay by none other than Rod Serling (best known as host of the later “Twilight Zone” series). It’s a tense corporate drama as a tough-as-nails CEO (Sloane) rides hard on a senior exec (Begley) while an intended replacement (Heflin) tries to figure out what to do.

As an added bonus, our 1956 short subject “Disneyland Dream” tells of an ordinary family that wins an all-expense-paid trip to the brand-new Magic Kingdom. This delightful film was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress, and it’s a treat for all ages.

You get all this for only $3 per person or $8 per family (4 persons max. at family rate). Popcorn, candy and drinks are also available to make it a complete movie experience. Proceeds benefit Historic Fox Theater Restorations, a nonprofit group dedicated to returning the Fox to its original 1930s splendor.

Missing rafters FOUND!

MCKENNA, Wash. — Sheriff’s deputies FOUND six teenagers who did not return on time from a rafting trip on the Nisqually River.

Stacey Devies said her two brothers and four of their friends left Wednesday afternoon and got into the river in McKenna.

The six were expected to arrive at Frank’s Landing later in the evening, but they did not come home.

Devies said the teens were using inner-tubes and inflatable rafts, but she does not think they had life jackets.

Police found some of the vehicles belonging to the group Thursday morning

MCKENNA, Wash. – Six teenaged inner-tubers missing overnight on the Nisqually River have been found safe.

The tubers, five boys and a girl, are aged 18-to-20 years old, began their trip down the river from McKenna, east of Yelm, Wednesday at about 3 p.m.

According to the sister, the teens entered the river at the park in McKenna on State Route 706. They were apparently heading west toward Frank’s Landing near Interstate 5.

The trip was reportedly supposed take about six-to-nine hours. They were reported missing by one of their mothers when they failed to return home on time.

The sister says family members began searching for the teens but were unable to find them overnight.

Some of the teens cars were found at Frank’s Landing.

Angie Devies, the mother of two of the teens, says her boys were not familiar with the Nisqually River.

“They all met up at a friend’s house and got inner-tubes and a raft,” said Devies.

Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies joined family and friends in the overnight search for the teens.

The Pierce County Swift Water Rescue team went down the river in the morning, trying to follow in the teen’s path.

Shortly before 8:30 a.m. five of the teens reached Frank’s Landing. A sixth teen was spotted in the middle of the river and was picked up by a fisherman.

Deputies will be talking to the teens to determine why they were so overdue in reaching their destination.

Deadwood Revival this week!!!

July 9, 2009 - Leave a Response

DwR in Tacoma/Portland/Corvallis this week

Hi Friends,
First our really cool news….
Deadwood Revival’s THIS OLD WORLD is nominated for ALBUM OF THE YEAR by Just Plain Folks in the Roots Category!!
Balloting is done via internet, but it isn’t a fan-base “who’s most popular” contest vote. I’ll send more info when I get it.
This is even more meaningful, because they literally have ten of thousands of cd submissions and Just Plain Folks claim it is the largest music award competition out there. http://www.jpfolks.com/ has the whole skinny, in case you’re interested.
